Sciatica
syndrome is the pain that runs through the sciatic nerve, the longest and
biggest nerve in the body from your lower spine to the lower back, through the
hip, the buttock down to the leg. Both of your legs have their own sciatic
nerves.
The sciatica
syndrome is usually due to a ruptured or bulging disc in your spine that
presses against the nerve roots affecting the sciatic nerves. It can also be
caused by spinal canal narrowing, when arthritis causes bone spurs, or when an
injury leads to nerve root compression.
Usually,
sciatica naturally gets better after several weeks. However, if it causes
bowel, bladder, or muscle problems, then you should go see a doctor to get sciatica
treatment.
When the pain
becomes manageable the doctor will advice certain exercise programs or physical
therapy. These activities aim to promote good posture and strengthen you back.
Most people tend
to stay in the bed to ease the pain. This may help you cope up with the pain of
sciatica at first, but this will later on weaken your muscle.
Maintaining
certain activities is better than bed rest. You can do gentle stretching
exercise to relieve the pain in the spine. There are exercises that strengthen
the spine and the muscle surrounding it. But stretching exercises can relieve
you from piriformis syndrome.
You can also do
pilates as sciatica
treatment. Pilates can improve poor muscle tone, develop posture, and
promote the core strength and stability of the body. Piltes is a great exercise
against back pain. It can also help prevent any future sciatica problems.
Other sciatica
treatments include massage, Osteopathy, Physiotherapy, spinal manipulation,
pain control, and acupuncture.
There are
centers that offer these treatments. Personal Training Master is an injury
recovery service in London that can help you with the sciatica
treatments you need.
